Visit of Nick Clegg

The last weekend of June 2013 proved particularly positive for us.

We opened up Lotti to visitors on the Saturday as part of the Crosspool
Festival Open Gardens and attracted a steady stream of people during the course
of the day. We were particularly encouraged by a professional farmer who paid us
a visit and was very complimentary about what we have achieved.

The highlight was a visit by local MP and Acting Prime Minister (while David C was overseas),
Nick Clegg. He brought his family and spent a pleasant time hearing about what we doing,
looking around Lotti and lending a hand with some of our work.

He was pleased to hear about all the compostable material that we collect from one of the
main Government office buildings in Sheffield – where Department for Education and Dept
for Business, Innovation and Skills staff all put their raw food waste into tubs for the cleaners
to gather up for a weekly collection.  Nick even put some of "Vince’s rubbish" into our compost
heap and was glad to see it being put to good use in creating organic plant food.

On the Sunday, we had a stall at the Crosspool Street Market, for the third year running with a
combined Tombola, sales we have more than doubled Hillside Harvest’s bank balance!

We always enjoy coming up with creative ways of entertaining people on our stall and raising some
money at the same time. As ever we had quite a lot of people come up to us and express interest in
joining.
